About Charlotte

Life stories are important.

Is your story what you want it to be?  Are you struggling because you are dealing with an old way of thinking, a relationship that is not working, or with the pain of a life event?  I can help you work to create a story that is about the life you want and are created to live.

Working with women like you who are stuck and not sure what the next steps will be is what I do.

My story is about helping women.  It’s chapters include being a wife, a mother, a daughter, a sister, an aunt, a friend, and a woman who understands that it is easy to get overwhelmed with life.  I am an appreciator of most things on four legs, a teacher, and a therapist who looks at life with a Christian worldview.

Another part of my story is designing opportunities for you to work with the horses to discover new ways of doing or looking at your world.  With the horses you will learn about healthy, supportive relationships. How to become that creative thinker again.  Horses will give you the gift of knowing that you really are enough.

Two ways to work with me: In the Office and Out with the Horses

Offering you a choice is one of the ways my therapy practice is different.

  • Will you find the answers you’re seeking and develop self-awareness in the traditional in-office therapy setting?
  • Or, are you drawn to equine assisted therapy?

Both of these alternatives bring advantages. Sometimes a combination of the two is the best way to reach your goals.

In the Office

Traditional in-office therapy services offer you a chance to intentionally process and talk through the issues of your struggle.  This provides you the opportunity to explore stuck points while learning new skills, hearing new perspectives, and receiving support.

With the Horses

During my work toward my Masters, I began developing programming that created therapeutic partnership between women and horses.  These partnerships offered a healing space that was different and supportive. The work done with the horse significantly impacts how you understand your story.

There is a wonder about the horse work, supported by the brain science, that changes the way you think about yourself. Horses don’t care that you have a whole list of words that you call yourself when you aren’t perfect. They don’t care if you feel like you failed the last time you went to a therapist.  All that matters is what is in the now, the present moment.

The horse sessions are about being in the horse environment.  No riding, no horsemanship.  Just a relationship with an animal who trusts you to enter into his world.   Horses can support you on your journey to recognize, understand, and practice being comfortable with “being enough.”

What’s It Like to Work with Me?

Meet with me in the office, or walk and talk on the beautiful grounds of Central Kentucky Riding for Hope (CKRH) with the horses,  I will support you with an integrative approach using EMDR or Brainspotting — therapies that work with the brain to change our thought habits, and other evidence-based therapy approaches.  These approaches rely on the brain’s natural tendency to want to heal.  The goal is to find the best method to help you work through your distress–whether it is a traumatic past event, anxiety, relationship issues, performance issues, or navigating a life event.

When you work with me, you will be encouraged, coached, and heard with compassion and understanding.  You can also expect to be gently challenged to understand who you really are and why you’re here.

We will work together to understand your patterns of behavior and thought.  You will develop skills that will enable you to get unstuck and to move ahead in your story.
